Fishermens Stew is from the mind of Greg Di Gesu, the slightly demented, introspective singer songwriter. Greg founded New Brunswick, NJs legendary Wooden Soldiers back in 1984 which released their classic indie album "hippies, punks and rubbermen", and since has been one of New Brunswick's most well-respected songwriters. For about 2 years, Greg worked at Hannibal/Carthage Records when the eclectic independent record company was on Jersey Avenue in New Brunswick. In the early 1990's, after Rykodisk bought the company, he went to apprentice as an audio engineer at Waterfront Studios in Hoboken. Henry Hirsch, the owner of Waterfront taught Greg basic audio engineering and production. As an engineer, Greg had the opportunity to work with a wide range of performers, including Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Scott, the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble (with members of the Skatalites and the Toasters), mother/daughter folksingers Toshi and Bernice Johnson Reagon, as well as remixes of Elis Regina and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Recalling Dylan's off-the-cuff approach to music, Greg assembled a tasty blend of revolving players for the "Stew". Some of the musician's who have been a part of the Stew include: Jack Petruzzelli (Joan Osborne, Rufus Wainwright); Scott Byrne (Instant Death, electronic music composer); the late Howie Wyeth (Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue); Dave Dreiwitz (Ween, Instant Death); Henry Hirsch (Lenny Kravitz); and Claude Coleman, Jr. (Ween, Toshi Reagon). In 1994 and 1996 he even took the show to Germany with members of the Berlin-based Cuban Rebel Girls. Today, Fishermen's Stew is based in NYC and is currently recording more songs... Their records are self-produced and engineered. Fishermens Stew will never cease to amaze. It strikes at the core of those moments of introspection, inquiry, anger, and downright silliness that we all go through. contact Greg Di Gesu |
